Panchanga Mathematical Model
Panchanga is an algorithmic time calculation system based on five fundamental astrometric parameters: solar day (Vaara), angular luminaries offset of 12° (Tithi), zodiacal sector of 13°20' (Nakshatra), solar and lunar longitude sum (Yoga), and 6° half-interval (Karana).
- Vaara (Solar Day) — determining diurnal planetary index from astronomical sunrise.
- Tithi (Lunar Phase Day) — capturing relative longitudinal separation of the Sun and Moon in 12° intervals.
- Nakshatra (Zodiac Sector) — determining sidereal longitude of the Moon in one of 27 sectors of 13°20'.
- Yoga (Angular Sum) — calculating total longitudinal sum of the Sun and Moon to locate phase resonances.
- Karana (Half-Tithi) — computing dynamic 6° semi-segments for micro-interval analysis.
Operating Principle of the Hora Engine
Hora is a calculated interval equal to 1/24th of an astronomical diurnal cycle. The cycle starts from local sunrise and is partitioned into 12 diurnal and 12 nocturnal intervals. Due to seasonal variations in daylight length, interval duration is dynamic. The ruler of the first segment after sunrise governs the planetary index of the day. Subsequent cyclic rotation follows the classical Chaldean order of mean speeds: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon. Interval computation provides temporal structuring, precision observation timestamps, and harmonic time-series tracking.
- High-precision calculation of dynamic diurnal and nocturnal segment lengths for any latitude.
- Automatic cyclic identification of planetary index for any specified moment in time.
D1 and D9 Calculation Grid Specification
The base D1 (Rashi) matrix is a 2D vector projection of apparent planetary longitudes onto 12 sidereal zodiac sectors at a given timestamp. The D9 (Navamsha) harmonic is a mathematical transformation for high-resolution longitudinal microstructure analysis.
- Accurate Ascendant (Lagna) angle calculation based on coordinates and geocentric ephemerides.
- Algorithmic detection of retrograde motion (R), angular proximity, and velocity phases.
- Vimshottari time-series matrix for long-term periodic interval modeling.
- Full support for diamond (North Indian) and square (South Indian) chart projections.
